Importance of pubs becomes hot topic

by admin 2/26/2010 2:58:00 PM

MPs have been discussing the importance of community pubs in parliament this week.

The vice chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group revealed that, on average, each pub contributes a massive £80,000 a year to the local economy, in addition to all the charitable events and special nights that many pubs also run regularly.

Labour MP for Selby John Grogan (pictured below) claimed that the community pub has a bigger reach that most other institutions, attracting 80% of people throughout each year.

If you’d like the chance to contribute to your community by running your own pub, then take a look at our pubs to let or check our 'licensee support' section to see how we’re helping our landlords make the most of their pub.

Get a slice of the pie

by admin 2/12/2010 11:01:00 AM

Following on from the recent blog post about Admiral’s successful food events (see below), we thought we’d offer a little extra food advice to our landlords.

British Pie Week is coming up, and getting involved with the event could really drive sales at your pub.

Starting on 1 March, this event offers a great opportunity for pubs to plan ‘pie and pint’ deals, theme nights or a special pie-themed menu.

If you’d like to find out more about how Admiral are helping their landlords make the most of their food offering, visit the My Pub Food website or call the Admiral Taverns food team on 0844 800 6671.

Admiral landlords hungry for food advice!

by admin 2/10/2010 3:42:00 PM

The Admiral Taverns food team have been busier than usual over the last few weeks - they have been holding events in partnership with the wholesaler Bookers. The food team hold presentations and demonstrations for Admiral Taverns licensees in Booker stores. They can find out about starting food or improving their current offerings, they can see our development chef demonstrate how to prepare some of the foods available from the Bookers range and book free in pub training from our award winning food team.

As well as meeting the Admiral team, Bookers provide advice about their product offering, give the landlords a fascinating in store tour and present the benefits available for Booker customers.

Attendance levels have been fantastic with up to 30 pubs turning up each day. Sam Pedder Head of food at Admiral said "the amount of pub landlords coming to see us is very encouraging, they have show great interest in learning more about food and have been impressed by the expertise and service levels of Bookers staff and the extensive product range that they can provide".

Here is a selection of comments from satisfied Admiral landlords.

- “Found people from both Booker and Admiral very helpful and would recommend all to attend”

- “Helpful tips from the chef thank you”

- “Ideas for menus etc… very good, incentives to use Booker also a good idea”

- “Had a great morning, got some good ideas and now looking forward to starting food, thanks”

The team are halfway through their tour with events at Stoke, Sheffield, Leeds, Gateshead, Ardwick, Haydock and Chester to come!

Opportunities with Admiral

Playing the game

by admin 2/5/2010 10:00:00 AM

Admiral is helping its landlords maximise revenue by offering expert advice on selecting the latest gaming machines and how to maintain them.

Keeping your AWP machines and note acceptors well stocked is really important according to Ann Jordan, Admiral's machine administrator. Recent reports state that pubs can see takings from AWP machines rise by up to 8-10% if landlords keep them stocked with the optimum sum of £350.

You could also be missing out if your bank note acceptor isn’t working; research has shown that AWP machines can earn up to 10% more if their bank note acceptor is operational, because over 60% of machine income is now taken through the bank note acceptor.

For more tips, download our guide to making the most of your leisure machines, or find out more about how to make the most of your pub in our ‘Licensee Support’ section.
